It’s the basis of any project – timekeeping, quality control and budget. There’s no such thing as a free lunch and unfortunately it isn’t possible to have something made to a high quality, done yesterday, for a minimal cost. Something always has to give. Once you understand this principle, it becomes easier to assess your priorities and commence a project with realistic expectations, budgets and timelines.
So let’s look at a couple of examples. Imagine you have an important meeting at the end of the week and they’re going to want to see your new company logo design. Unfortunately you’ve been so snowed under getting the legal aspects finalized that the timeline to have a logo designed has slipped by, so what are your options? You need it by the end of the week so it has to be fast. This leaves the following options:
Great, you’ve found a company that can design you a new logo and have it finished before your meeting at the end of the week. Even better, they’re half the price of some of the other quotes you’ve got! Halfway through the week you call to see how things are going and they say there’s nothing to see yet as a big client came in and paid lots of money to have his project done. Yours got put to the side but rest assured, all will be fine by the end of the week. You spend a sleepless night or two hoping they are right.
The end of the week comes and they send you through a couple of concepts but they aren’t what you were hoping for. You need a few changes done and they say that’s fine, but they won’t be able to get to it until next week. You take the concepts that you aren’t really happy with to your meeting, it all goes okay but it’s certainly not how you’d planned to blow everyone away with your great new concept and branding.
You’ve found a web design company that are charging twice as much as some of the other quotes you’ve had, but they’ve assured you they will work late if need be and do whatever it takes to ensure you have your logo by the end of the week.
Mid-week a range of concepts arrive for you to provide feedback on. You get a good nights sleep and send over a few changes to be worked on, they then complete the changes and send over your final draft for sign off before the end of the week. They make one final tweak and the logo is ready in time for your meeting. You enter the meeting filled with confidence and excited to show off your new concept and branding.
In the next example let’s assume you’re a small home business on a tight budget. You’ve invested the majority of your cash flow into producing your homemade product range and you need to get your website ready whilst working full time, putting the finishing touches on your products and feeding the neighbor’s cat whilst they’re off on holidays. So what are your options here?
Same as before, you’ve found a company that will do you a website within your budget and have it to you quickly. The small amount of time spent is evident in the final product and not all your changes have been completed. Looks like It’s not going to be as fast or cheap as you’d hoped if you’re going to get it to the quality you’re happy with.
So they’re not promising to deliver it tomorrow, it will be a while before you see anything but it’s within budget and you like the look of the other sites they’ve done. You send over your content and wait…. When your website arrives and it’s just what you were hoping for, a couple of weeks later and all your changes have been complete. Your budget hasn’t been blown and you have a site you’re proud to show your friends.
ARB Infosys are great at creating smart, professional websites on a tight budget. We specialize in Good Quality at a Cheap Price. Our turnaround time is usually about 4 weeks, so we’re not really that slow either!
If necessary we can work all night to deliver you a website you can be proud of, in time for that important meeting at the end of the week. However it’s not going to be cheap, there’s a lot of ice cream, pizza and coffee needed to bribe designers into working through the wee hours!
The third option of quick and cheap isn’t really something we get very excited about. Work that is done fast and on the cheap will never be of the same quality as if there had been more time or greater budget.
We pride ourselves on helping small businesses get online for an affordable price and we want to ensure that your new website brings more business and positive feedback. This then lays the foundation for a happy relationship that we hope continues for years to come.
